Types of Squadrons

There are seven Civil Air Patrol squadrons in Orange County, California and three distinct styles of squadrons. Review the information on this page to discover the type of squadron that right for you!

CADET SQUADRONS

Cadet squadrons consist of youth members (ages 12 to 18). (Adult members serve in cadet squadrons in a leadership/advisory capacity.) CAP cadets participate in a year-round program where they fly, learn to lead, hike, camp, get in shape and push themselves to new limits. The program transforms youth into dynamic citizens and aerospace leaders through a curriculum that focuses on four elements: leadership, aerospace, fitness and character.

SENIOR SQUADRONS

Senior squadrons consist entirely of adult members (18+). There are many opportunities to serve as an adult volunteer in Civil Air Patrol. In emergency services and operations, senior members may help as pilots, serving as aircrew members, with communications, transportation of goods, taking photos or helping distribute water and food.  Adult members also help out at the squadron with day-to-day operations like managing the finances, keeping inventory of equipment, training and developing members, handling marketing and social media duties.
